Desde la noción de que la filosofía y el arte son los campos ideales para generar preguntas sobre nuestra condición humana, encuentro en los nuevos medios y sus recientes artefactos como memes, gifs, stickers o imágenes, el soporte poético adecuado para continuar cuestionando las relaciones de poder que se despliegan de manera opaca y veloz a través de la presente cultura digital.

Y en esta nueva cultura que es a la vez de todxs y de nadie, Press to the reset world no es sólo una propuesta para reflexionar la sobre-saturada estructura de la nube y examinar los intereses capitalizadores de las corporaciones detrás de ésta, sino también una alternativa para tomar las redes, resignificar el “entretenimiento” y potenciar la voz anónima de la resistencia.

Como cazadora de metáforas, desde la exploración y apropiación, Press to the reset the world se basa en la recolección de imágenes que redescubro como poemas y meta-verdades: fotografías de graffitis, poesía e intervenciones anónimas en el espacio público real, disponibles para compartir en la red -y plataformas como Tumblr o Pinterest-; y las re-configuro como nuevos dispositivos para la transmisión de afectos y la reflexión, nutriendo así el sentido en la virtualización de los movimientos sociales y el carácter participativo de los usuarios. Por ejemplo el gif, en su cualidad de loop infinito, resulta una herramienta que se manifiesta desde lo persistente.

Hoy, más que nunca, las plataformas virtuales representan la realidad de un espacio público en disputa. En una época de pandemia global, nuestro sentido de conectividad se vuelve indispensable, pero a su vez se ve confrontado con la restricción de las libertades individuales por la creciente vigilancia impuesta a través de las regulaciones de seguridad digital.

Así, las posibilidades de modificar, recuperar, disfrutar y participar de los nuevos “juegos de sentido”, en sus funciones como copiar, imitar, editar o difundir, también representan en esta era de nueva alfabetización digital, una estrategia útil para la adaptabilidad de una ética de la cooperación y la reconstrucción de los lazos afectivos y el sentido de identificación de las sociedades actuales.

Aware of the notion that art and philosophy are both ideal fields to raise questions on our human condition, I find the new media and its recent artifacts such as memes, gifs, stickers and images to be a righteously poetic kind, and an adequate one to keep on querying the speedy and nontransparent ways in which the power relations of current digital culture deploy.

Therefore, in this new culture that belongs to everyone as it does to no-one, Press to the reset world is not only a proposal to ponder on the over-saturated structure of the cloud and examine the capitalizing interests of the corporations behind it, but also an alternative to take the networks, redefine its “entertaining” purposes and enhance the anonymous voice of resistance.

As a huntress of metaphors, in an explorative appropriation fashion, I collect images to reinterpret them as poems and meta-truths: photographs of graffiti, poetry and other anonymous interventions from real public space, available on the network -and at platforms such as Tumblr and Pinterest-; and edit them to become new devices for the transmission of affections and reflection, thus nurturing the sense of virtualization of the social movements and the participatory spirit of the users. Gifs’ infinite-looping feature, for instance, turns out to be a nice tool for symbolic persistency.

Today, more than ever, virtual platforms represent the reality of a public space in dispute. In times of a global pandemic, our sense of connectivity becomes indispensable; but at the same time it is confronted with the restriction of individual freedoms by the increasing state of vigilance imposed through digital security regulations.

Hence the possibilities of modifying, reconfiguring, enjoying and taking part in this new open “sense play” of ideology, through functions like copying, imitating, editing and disseminating, also represent a useful strategy for the adaptability of an ethic of cooperation and the reconstruction of affective bonds and common identification for current societies, being as well a new way of digital literacy.
